We freely admit that there's been something going on between MACEO PLEX and Kompakt, with the US-bred, Barcelona-based artist signing responsible for that iconic remix of GusGus' «Crossfade» (KOMPAKT DIGITAL 040) and futuristic prime time banger «Conjure Superstar» (KOMPAKT 306). But that's been last year, this is the now — as Maceo's latest floor shaker MIRROR ME so imposingly demonstrates. A cut born to push bass bins and raise hands, this doozie only knows one way: forward ever, backward never. Comes in two distinct flavors — a massive extended version for the full vocal experience featuring Chloé Raunet of C.A.R. fame, and an incentive «Dark Dub» version opting for a leaner and meaner approach with a strong techno feel. The base of the work is done, and both Ben and MareNostrum can progress now that they have common words.

The abstract mechanical and electronic parts quickly stay in the background of the track, being overwhelmed by layers of spatial ambient sounds ponctuated every so often by high-pitched cries and deep kicks. The machine has to tell a story, and even if we still don't know how to translate the details, the emotions can be rightly interpreted.

The sounds in II don't lie, we are already at the next level of understanding and communication. The erratic patterns of computer sounds are more and more weak against the distant melodies appearing and disappearing in the track. We are still in a calibration process, guided by the moanings of the computer, but the database to truly understand each other is exponentially increasing, and the emotions strictly computerized have now a human resonance.

However, are we understanding what the computers says or is the computer understanding what we say? Does the machine adapt to humans or does the human turn into a machine ?

Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American music composer. He is considered to be one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century and is widely acknowledged as a composer who has brought art music to the public (along with precursors such as Richard Strauss, Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein).

Peter Greenaway, CBE (born 5 April 1942) is a British film director. His films are noted for the distinct influence of Renaissance and Baroque painting, and Flemish painting in particular. The scenic composition and illumination and the contrasts of costume and nudity, nature and architecture, furniture and people, sexual pleasure and painful death are common traits in his films.
