Philip Glass — Documentary and performance from Four American Composers by Peter Greenaway

Опубликовано: 27 янв. 2016 г.Based on London performances under the aegis of the New York/Almeida Festival, this set of four one-hour documentaries, originally produced in 1983, introduced these avant-garde composers and their music to general British audiences. It is a tribute to the filmmakers' accomplishment (and a sorry comment on how we honor our own prophets) that the set provides no less valuable an introduction for American audiences a full decade later.

Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American music composer. He is considered to be one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century and is widely acknowledged as a composer who has brought art music to the public (along with precursors such as Richard Strauss, Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein).

Peter Greenaway, CBE (born 5 April 1942) is a British film director. His films are noted for the distinct influence of Renaissance and Baroque painting, and Flemish painting in particular. The scenic composition and illumination and the contrasts of costume and nudity, nature and architecture, furniture and people, sexual pleasure and painful death are common traits in his films.

Washington National Opera: Appomattox with Philip Glass

Опубликовано: 16 окт. 2015 г.To mark 50 years since the Voting Rights Act and 150 years since the end of the Civil War, Washington National Opera will present the world premiere revised version of Philip Glass's acclaimed opera «Appomattox.» Prior to the premiere, excerpts were performed at a Works & Process sneak peek on October 5, and WNO artistic director Francesca Zambello moderated a discussion with director Tazewell Thompson and Glass.

Since 1984, New Yorkers have been able to see, hear, and meet the most acclaimed artists in the world, in an intimate setting unlike any other. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, has championed new works, offered audiences unprecedented access to our generation's leading creators and performers, and hosted post-show receptions for the audiences and artists to continue the discussion.

Each performance uniquely combines artistic creation and stimulating conversation and takes place in the Guggenheim's intimate Frank Lloyd Wright-designed 285-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater. Described by The New York Times as «an exceptional opportunity to understand something of the creative process,» Works & Process is produced by founder Mary Sharp Cronson.
