When it comes to the softer side of drum 'n' bass, Lenzman's productions most definitely muster thoughts of words beginning with the letter S: slick, soulful and damn right seductive.

Releasing since 2006, the Dutchman has crafted a host of melancholic wonders ('Bittersweet', 'How Did I Let You Go' and 'Open Page' to name a few) but he doesn't just deal in the sweet stuff. Heavier rollers like 'Wordsworth' and 'Broken Dreams' have also come, showing a healthy appetite to change things up but with one key ingredient always in the recipe — soul.

It's no surprise that he's appeared on some of the most venerable d'n'b labels around then. Spearhead Records, SGN:LTD, Soul:r and Goldie's Metalheadz have all called upon his talents, the latter a home for his forthcoming debut album 'Looking At The Stars'. Again, this LP shows his ability to knock up soothing chillers while moving into harder, heavier ground at times and when Goldie describes you as having «fucking game», you must be doing something right.

Mixmag fully echoes the Metalheadz boss' sentiments and that's exactly why we've recruited Lenzman for this week's In Session on the back of his album launch party at Fabric. As has come to be expected from him (check him in The Lab), this mix is just under an hour of elegant, easy-on-the-ears d'n'b. Expect glistening vocals, deep grooves and delicate piano chords. Oh, did we forget to say there's a few tracks from 'Looking At The Stars' on there too?

The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place is the third album recorded by post-rock band Explosions in the Sky, released on November 4, 2003 on the Temporary Residence label. It is widely considered to be a concept album.

The album continues the patterns of the previous albums, with brooding, ominous melodies building into crashing climaxes. It has received positive reviews from critics, with a rating of 86% – or 'Universal Acclaim' – at review aggregation website Metacritic.

From an interview on «Slice of the Shiny» Munaf said The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place was the band's «attempt at love songs».

«Your Hand in Mine» was adapted for inclusion in the Friday Night Lights soundtrack, along with other original material written for the movie. The song was shortened from its album length of over eight minutes to just over four, and was embellished with string accompaniment. Parts of the song, especially the dramatic crescendo at 6:18 (43:36 in the video), are used in Reliant Energy's series of radio and television advertisements extolling «The Promise of Power». The song was used on The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s for July and August 2011.

«The Only Moment We Were Alone» was featured in the trailer for the 2008 film Australia. The song was also featured in the 2009 documentary film Love the Beast. It is also featured briefly in Michael Moore's film, Capitalism: A Love Story.

«First Breath After Coma» was used in a 2009 promo for sports television channels Versus, the Big Ten Network, an Under Armour commercial, commercials for Bing, and in the outro of Toy Machine's «Good and Evil» skateboard video. It was also used by director Shawn Levy, in the movie Real Steel to make Dakota Goyo cry.

The vinyl version of the album features etchings of birds on side D.
