Venetian Snares — Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006 (Full album)
Опубликовано: 19 авг. 2012 г.In my opinion, Glue Funk Hits is one of his best. It is something of a landmark release for Aaron «Venetian Snares» Funk when compared to subsequent releases. Released in 2002, it is his first label-released LP in which he would display a particular sonic substance with which he would become associated. Bits of «Amen» and «Think» breaks are sprinkled over distorted supersaw synths, feedback whines and third party samples, at times touched with oscillating flangers and frequency filters, with snare rushes and time stretched percussion samples abounding. In future releases, such as the following year's Chocolate Wheelchair Album (alternately titled Stupid Chocolate Wheelchair), Funk would tone down the harshness and give his tracks a more tangible metronomic meter, but most of the major identifiable traits of a Venetian Snares record first manifested themselves on Glue Funk Hits. Not to say this is a generically uniform record throughout. «Walmer Side» displays glitchcore elements first explored on his previous releases such as printf(«shiver in eternal darkness/n») and Songs About My Cats, while «Dismantling Five Years» is a plaintive atmospheric tune devoid of percussion, and «Banana Seat Girl» sees Funk trying his hand at synthetic Trout Mask Replica-esque free jazz. Certainly a breakcore benchmark and an underrated record from the catalogue of one of the greats.
